Fishing trip with MS Symra during the traditional Lofoten fishery

Deep Sea Lofoten Winter Fishing Trip

Traditional deep sea fishing trip during the legendary seasonal fishery

Join us for a traditional fishing trip looking for Barents cod. The 100-year-old fishing vessel MV Symra, takes you from Svolvær to the rich fishing grounds off the coast of Lofoten.

The traditional Lofoten fishing experience is a true winter adventure! Catch your own fish, gut it, and enjoy a fresh fish dinner.

Fishing in Lofoten varies greatly depending on the season, and during the traditional Lofoten fishing season, which lasts from late February to April, we focus on catching the Skrei cod. Our winter fishing tour includes deep-sea fishing using traditional hand-cranked reels on board an authentic fishing vessel. MS Symra is what you envision when you think of a traditional fishing boat, and it actually celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017. It’s a comfortable boat designed specifically for Lofoten fishing. It’s a heritage-protected vessel, certified to carry 38 passengers.

We set sail from Svolvær, passing by the iconic Fisherman’s Wife statue, and head to the fishing grounds that our experienced crew knows can yield a good catch based on the season and time of year. During the trip, our crew will provide you with excellent guidance, sharing stories and insights about Lofoten fishing alongside the actual fishing experience.

There are 10 fishing spots on board, so our guests should be prepared to share their fishing spot with other anglers on this trip. However, no worries – you’re likely to be satisfied with your catch before we head back to the harbor. And as for your catch, we’ll teach you how to gut it on board, and of course, you can take it home with you if you wish. Winter seas can be cold, so make sure to dress warmly in layers and wear shoes with good soles.

Children are welcome, but they should be comfortable with the sea and be over 10 years old.
