Welcome toOslo

a modern European metropolis

Finn opplevelser

Starting your Norwegian holiday in Oslo comes natural — literally. The national capital is not only compact, cosmopolitan and our major port of entry. In Oslo, the great outdoors is also never far away.

Soak in some of Scandinavia's best culture, cuisine and city sightseeing in Oslo, before swimming in a scenic fjord, skiing or hiking evergreen forests or even ziplining down a ski jump — all within city limits.

Surprised? You shouldn’t be. One of Norway’s greatest calling cards has always been its spectacular scenery. It makes sense the capital, too, is rich in natural attractions.

For starters, Oslo holds court at the end of the pristine — what else? — Oslofjord, 100 km (62 mi) of calm waters, verdant islands and charming, historic ports leading to the North Sea.

Municipal boundaries encompass all or part of natural musts like the wildlife- and recreation-rich Marka woodland, serene Sognsvann lake and the kayak- and cruise-ready Oslo Archipelago.

Then there’s the Akerselva River and its eminently strollable banks, running right through the center. In fact, Oslo is one of the world’s greenest and livable cities.

Home to nearly 700,000 people, the Norwegian capital offers everything you’d expect of a modern European metropolis — and so much more. Yes, there’s world-class shopping, dining and nightlife.

But then there’s all those “Only in Oslo” attractions, too. The gleaming iceberg of the harborside Opera House, for instance. Or entire museums showcasing icons like painter Edvard Munch, author Henrik Ibsen and sculptor Gustav Vigeland. Akershus Fortress and the Royal Palace, home to Norwegian royalty of yesterday and today.

And don’t forget the famous Viking Ship Museum or that sky-high ski jump — at the Holmenkollen Ski Museum and Tower. All easily reachable on foot, by free bike or via Oslo’s fast, efficient metro network.

Find your welcome to Norway in Oslo — it’s a capital idea.
