- Duration11.5 h
This excursion gives you the chance to top off your experience with a couple of hours in the saddle along the fjord right in the heart of Hardanger!
Following a pleasant journey by bus and boat, you can pick up your bike in Utne. Over the next seven hours, you are free to switch through your gears while you explore the 25 km-long stretch between Utne and Herand. Cycling non-stop takes around two hours, so you'll have plenty of time. From Utne, the road curves round to Samlafjord, where you elegantly wind your way through lush orchards and past old farms.
This cycle tour mostly follows the water's edge, but also goes over a low pass (250 metres above sea level) before the final descent into Herand. Set aside some time to experience Herand – a rural community rich in tradition, history and pride.

Sights on the trip
Part of the Hardangerfjord between Kvam, Jondal, Granvin and Ullensvang. The fjord is 30 km long, and over 800 metres deep in some places. The characteristic mountain of Samlen (686 metres above sea level) marks the divide between the outer and inner parts of Samlafjord and offers photo-friendly views both into and out of Hardangerfjord.
The small rural community of Herand in the municipality of Jondal has been voted Norway's finest rural community, with its well-preserved cultural landscape and beautiful location. Here, you can experience authentic Norwegian cultural history with old farmyards, marketplaces, Bronze Age carvings, a boat-building museum and local flavours.
Norway's second longest fjord is 179 km long. It extends inland to the base of the Hardangervidda plateau, the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe. The fjord and surrounding area has been a tourist destination since the 1800s, and continues to impress with its beautiful nature, living cultural heritage and memorable experiences.
You can start this excursion from the bus station in Bergen or on the quay in Norheimsund. You will need to take a bus on the outward/return journey from Norheimsund if you start in Bergen. The excursion then takes you by boat to Utne and then by cycle from Utne to Herand (25 km). You then take a boat from Herand to Norheimsund and a bus back to Bergen.
