Sights on the trip
Whether you choose to begin or end your tour in Bergen, you should definitely spend at least a couple of days here. As Norway’s second largest city and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Bergen has plenty to offer. Known as the gateway to the fjords on the southwestern coast of Norway, Bergen is surrounded by fjords, mountains and Norway's traditional colorful wooden buildings.
If Sognefjord is the King of the fjords then Hardangerfjord is the Queen. Stretching for 179 km, it is the second largest fjord in Norway and the fourth largest in the world. Surrounded by towering cliffs, snow-capped mountains and blossoming fruit trees, this part of Norway is a masterpiece of nature.
Lofthus is a fjord village in fairy tale settings. Perfect place to just relax at Hotel Ullensvang located right on the fjord. Or you can set off on unforgettable and iconic and challenging hikes such as HM Queen Sonja's panoramic hiking trail or Trolltunga hike. Visit exciting museums, picturesque churches and explore a unique cultural landscape. Do treat yourself at Lofthus, it's worth it.
Norwegian Nature Centre
Interacitve stations and immersive exhibits focusing on culture, nature and the environment make up the attractions at the Norwegian Nature Centre in Hardanger. There is also a state of the art cinema showing a short movie by Norwegian filmmaker Ivo Caprino taking showcasing the unrivalled lanscape of the Norwegian fjords with mountains, lakes, glaciers and waterfalls.
Vøringsfossen waterfall is a spectacular sight to behold. When the bus stops here you have the chance to make the short walk to the fenced viewing platform. As you make your way up, the landscape opens up before you. Once at the top, take a minute to really appreciate the view. Step forward (if you dare!) and watch the raging water hit the valley below.
