Photo stop at Gåsvær

The postal boat will drop you off at an island called Gåsvær. Here, you will have 30 minutes to explore the colorful houses and breathtaking shoreline.

Lågøystolane

These big rocks raise up from the water in a unique and beautiful manner. Though centuries they have been an important navigation mark for boats and ships passing through.

Alverstraumen

The express boat journeys through Alverstraumen, a narrow strait with strong tidal currents. The tidal whirlpools have both fascinated and challenged the people who had to pass them on the important trading route in and out of Bergen.

Fjord wildlife

Keep a lookout for the local wildlife that can be spotted in these parts of the coastline. Search the sky for sea eagles and falcons hunting for their next prey. Sunbathing seals can sometimes also be found on the shores.

Bulandet

Bulandet consists of about 300 islands and islets, with people living on 15 of them. Nordsjøporten road (The Gateway of the North Sea) beautifully links several of the islands by bridges. The name Bulandet originates from the norwegian word for boathouse

Værlandet

The 9 square-km (3.5 sq mi) island located immediately east of the Bulandet island group. Værlandet has a population of approximately 200 residents. The island connects to Værlandet through 6 bridges (Nordsjøporten).

Stjernsund Postal Boat

There's no better way to explore the narrow waters on the western coastline of Norway than on the postal boat. Listen to stories about the tiny communities living in the area, all told by the experienced captain. He's a fantastic local guide!
