Kjerag boulder
The 5 cubic meter (180 cu ft)) large boulder has become a popular hotspot for people wanting to test their nerves by stepping out on the rock that is suspended 984 m above the Lysefjord. This is one to check off your bucket list!
The hiking terrain
It is important to note that the hike is demanding taking you up and down hilly mountain tops. Round trip the trail measures 9,8 km (6 mi). The difference in altitude is 460 m (1509 ft).

Sirdal mountain drive
The beautiful area of Sirdal is known for its high peaking mountains and surrounding lakes. The hiking network in Sirdal consists of more than 1,000 km (100mi) of trails. The bus drives through this hiking mekka on its way to and from Kjerag mountain.
The Lysefjord from above
The Lysefjord is the southernmost fjord in Norway. End to end it measures 42 km (26mi). The steep rocky walls along its sides are made of lightly colored granite, and gives the fjord its name.
Mount Kjerag
The Kjerag mountain is a popular place to hike both for locals and tourists. It is easy to spot, as its peak towers above the surrounding mountains. Once you reach the summit, you're bound to see some truly spectacular views.
Wildlife
Keep a lookout for local wildlife. If you're lucky, you may spot some of the sea eagles that inhabit the Lysefjord.

Hike Duration
You have 6 hours to complete the hike. If you have not reached Kjerag by 13:00, you should turn around to make sure you catch the bus in time.
Meeting point
• Byterminalen track 7 at 7:45.
• Saturdays: Byterminalen track 5 at 7:45.
• Make sure to meet 10 minutes early.
Food
Pack plenty of food and water to keep your energy levels up. At Øygardstøl, the bus pickup point, there is a café and restaurant.There are no places to buy food along the trail
Clothing
Wear a proper hiking jacket, good hiking boots and make sure to bring layers of extra clothes in case the weather turns
Effort Level
It is important to be aware of the fact that this is a challenging hike. A good fitness level is recommended.
Unguided
Note that this hike is unguided. The route is well marked and you get to enjoy the hike with your own group at your own paste.
